L.A. Young & Soul Society — Live Soul, Jazz & Blues | Washington, DC Metro

L.A. Young is a powerhouse soul, jazz, blues and R&B vocalist whose voice has been described as Chaka Khan meets Phyllis Hyman — a rare contralto blend of raw power and silky emotional depth. Fronting her band Soul Society, she delivers live entertainment for corporate events, weddings, galas, private parties and festivals across the Washington, DC Metro area, the East Coast and nationwide.

From Steel Mill to Soul Power

A native of Ohio, L.A. Young became the first female crane operator in Ohio's steel industry at age 18 — breaking barriers before she ever stepped on a stage. Raised amid the soul, blues, R&B and funk of 1980s Ohio, she has opened for Freddie Jackson, recorded with jazz legends Pieces of A Dream, and is currently crafting new material with the legendary Norman Connors and Gold Bottom Productions. Named Maryland Artist of the Year (2018), she has performed more than 100 live shows.
